Thomian gates opened
(Lakbima News 3rd February 2004)

Dr, David Ponniah staged yet another graceful innings for S. Thomas' in 2002 when he opened the college gates to felicitate the retired teachers of his Alma mater after becoming the warden of the school in January 2001. The retired teachers of the school, having gone into oblivion since the retirement of Canon R.S. de Saram, the dynamic warden in 1959, were invited for a special breakfast followed by a general assembly by the Warden and the O.B.A at a felicitation ceremony in connection with the commemoration of the 150th year celebrations of the school by the sea. This magnanimous gesture was soon followed by the group of 1955 when some retired teachers of repute were felicitated by a group of Old Boys organised by Professor Lakshman Watawala in 2005 as well as in 2007. We are much grateful to them.

However, history was made by a group of Old Boys called the 'DSA group' organised by Sriyan Jayasekara, Kesaralal Gunasekara, Air Vice Marshal and G.Y. de Silva, strongly supported by a formidable group of Young Old Boys, who out of sheer gratitude, respect and deep love for old teachers felicitated them at Sasakawa hall on 4th December 2007. This was undoubtedly a remarkable act at a time when social values are eroding thus destroying the entire fabric of civilized society. Hence we thank our grateful Old Boys for their grateful act of sincerity.

Esto Perpetua.
G.K. Mandawala
